The use of hormone supplements is often in the news, and it can be difficult to keep a perspective on the real risks and benefits as we currently understand them. Hormones can be bio-identical or synthetic medications. Hormone therapy can be used to miminise changes related to ageing and even removed due to their effects on some cancers (especially breast and prostate cancer). Hormone therapy may be useful for both men and women to maintain health and quality of life.
Clearly there is no single approach to weight management that works for everyone, so Dr. Karen Oswald can provide individually tailored and medically supported programmes to help “kick start” loss and maintain healthy weight long term. While adequate sleep, exercise, and activity are very important for your metabolism and well- being, it is crucial to restrict calorie intake in some way in order to achieve weight loss. Some of our solutions include intermittent fasting, meal replacements, medications, very low calorie diets (VLCD) and vitamin support.

LOW DOSE NALTREXONE
Naltrexone is a medication which has been used for many years in medicine, mainly for reversal of narcotic overdose and for assistance with alcohol overuse. It forms part of a commonly used weight loss medication called "Contrave" as well. For the past 20-40 years, it has been studied for other properties. In a very low dose, it can have both pain management and anti-inflammatory actions. The mechanisms thought to cause this are via its effect on opiate receptors (which occur in many biological systems of the body), its ability to antagonise some "toll like" receptors (especially around nerves and immune cells), and its ability to promote some anti-inflammatory cells and endorphins. Low dose naltrexone (LDN) is not a narcotic.
This medication has been studied for many years, is generally safe and can be safely used in conjunction with usual medications. Because the dose used is usually 1/10th of the 50 mg tablets, the script needs to be prepared by a reliable compounding chemist.
